Biography

Marco Celenza is a PhD candidate in "Architecture. History and Project" at the Politecnico di Torino (39th cycle, Department of Architecture and Design). He obtained his Master’s Degree in "Architettura per il Restauro e la Valorizzazione del Patrimonio" at the same university, with a thesis dedicated to the evolution of Catholic and non-Catholic places of worship in the city of Turin from 1861 to the present. This research earned him, in 2022, the award for the best thesis on the theme “Torino Religiosa e Solidale” sponsored by the Municipality of Turin and the Piedmont Region.
After graduating, he continued his research activity with three research grants at the Politecnico di Torino, working on the reorganization and catalogue of the Maire Tecnimont Historical Archive. Maire Tecnimont is one of the leading Italian industrial groups in the engineering sector. This role enabled him to develop expertise in the management and enhancement of corporate archives.
Currently, his doctoral research focuses on the seismic event that struck Campania and Basilicata in 1980. Through a comparative and interdisciplinary approach that intertwines urban and architectural aspects with territorial planning, political affairs and economic development, the research aims to investigate the earthquake as a catalyst, its role, the actors involved and its impact on the processes of transformation of the affected territories and urban centers, with particular reference to the "crater zone."
