Biography

Carlo Ricciardi was born in 1975. He graduated in Physics at the University of Torino in 2000 (110/110 cum laude) and obtained his Ph.D. in Physics at Politecnico di Torino (PoliTO) in 2004. He joined PoliTO as a permanent Assistant Professor (Ricercatore a Tempo Indeterminato – RTI) in 2007, became Associate Professor in 2014, and Full Professor in 2023, where he teaches “Physics of NanoBioSystems”. He was Visiting Scientist at the University of California, Berkeley (2007) and Visiting Professor at EPFL (2017). From 2018 to 2024 he coordinated the International Master's Degree in “Nanotechnologies for ICTs” at PoliTO. He leads the NaMeS research group (https://names.polito.it), whose main activities focus on bio-inspired nanodevices, including memristive devices for unconventional computing and nano-biomechanical sensing. He has co-authored more than 150 papers in international peer-reviewed journals (40% published in 2021–2025), including one Nature Materials, four Nature Communications, and four Biosensors and Bioelectronics papers as first, corresponding and/or last author. His H-index is 33, with more than 4,500 citations (Web of Science, June 2026). He is co-inventor of two international patents and serves as reviewer for leading journals, including Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Electronics and Advanced Materials. He collaborates with researchers from institutions such as Stanford University, Caltech, ETH Zurich, EPFL and IBM Research, and reviews projects for agencies including EPSRC (UK) and NWO (The Netherlands). He has participated in numerous national and international research projects with companies, R&D centers and public institutions, securing funding exceeding €3 million.
