Abstract

The activities will be focused on the development of novel thermochemical, chemical, biochemical and bioelectrical conversion processes (TRL 2-3) and systems (integration of processes at different TRL) to convert bioenergy into useful power, advanced biofuels and value-added products. Emphasis will be devoted to overcoming the limiting factors of the thermochemical and biological integration processes to optimize the integration and to fill the shortcomings of a single process, and in the development of novel processes and technologies for CCUS in bioenergy systems. Legislation and policy trends (Renewable Energy Directive II and III, LULUCF Regulation, EU Forest/EU Biodiversity/EU Bioeconomy Strategies; EU Taxonomy on Sustainable Finance, Governance Regulation and National Climate and Energy Plans (NCEP)) draw up the overarching criteria for identifying risk and opportunities in the development of low TRL bioenergy and advanced biofuels pathways and to identify sustainable biomass availability in medium and long term for their exploitation in the Italian scenario.
