Biografia

Sinem Hazal Akyildiz is a textile engineer and Ph.D. researcher at the Politecnico di Torino, with a specialization in environmental engineering. Her research is an integral part of the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) project FAST4C, focusing on Fashion-Tech design for circularity. This initiative is connected to the "Made in Italy Circolare e Sostenibile" (MICS) Extended Partnership, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and supported by the European Union's NextGenerationEU program. Akyildiz's work addresses critical environmental issues, specifically textile waste and its impact on micro and macro pollution, aiming to develop sustainable solutions for the industry. Her expertise lies in addressing microfiber pollution and advancing textile waste separation and recycling technologies. She focuses on developing innovative methods to reduce the release of microfibers from textiles into the environment, as well as improving systems for separating and recycling textile waste. Through her research, she aims to create sustainable solutions that enhance the lifecycle of textiles while minimizing their environmental impact. In addition to her research, she has held various academic and industry roles, offering insights into sustainable production and waste management. Before pursuing her Ph.D., she was a Research Assistant at Marmara University, focusing on textile waste recycling and microplastic pollution. She holds a Master’s degree in Innovative Technical Textiles from Istanbul Technical University and has participated in various startup initiatives dedicated to developing circular textile systems.
