Biografia
After my graduation, under the supervision of Professor Massimo Violante, I completed a research fellowship on Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) detection with a smartwatch.
The next year, I started my PhD "Non-invasive and low-cost solutions for health monitoring during sleep" under the supervision of Professor Massimo Violante.
To briefly explain my activity, I can say that sleep deprivation and poor sleep quality cause several side effects in everyday life; among others, the efficiency of the immune system progressively decreases, enhancing the arise of pathologies.
Sleep deprivation can cause daytime drowsiness, which is responsible for reduced work performance, reduced athletic performance, and road accidents. Therefore, the evaluation of sleep quality is crucial for providing information about personal health status.
Non-invasive methods allow us to monitor sleep in more situations, such as while driving, or to conduct studies over a long time period with fewer resources.
The PhD program focuses on collecting data from subjects in different situations with both medical equipment and non-invasive solutions (i.e., smartwatches and radar), developing algorithms compatible with the non-invasive solutions to identify the Sleep Pattern and detect drowsiness and comparing the obtained results with the medical results.
