Biografia

Bartolomeo Coppola has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) since 2024. He was previously an Assistant Professor (Rtd-B) in the same department from 2021 to 2024. He received his European PhD in April 2016 from the University of Salerno (PhD in Chemical Engineering) and the University of Liège (Doctorat en Sciences de l'ingénieur et Technologie), working on the durability and sustainability of ceramic materials with the aim of reducing raw material consumption and promoting the use of secondary raw materials. Since joining the LINCE group in Turin in April 2018, Bartolomeo Coppola's research activities have mainly focused on 3D printing advanced ceramic materials, primarily through robocasting (also known as direct ink writing, DIW) and digital light processing (DLP). This new line of research led him to participate in the AMITIE project activities (Marie Sklodowska-Curie Grant Agreement No. 734342), involving eleven academic and nine industrial partners from eight different countries. Within this framework, he began collaborating with major global companies such as Saint-Gobain. His scientific activity focuses on materials, particularly ceramics and polymer/ceramic composites, for use in structural, high-temperature, biomedical, functional, and environmental applications. His research focuses on engineering and traditional ceramic materials. In the former material class, particular attention is given to aluminosilicates, alumina, calcium phosphates, zirconia, and alumina-zirconia composites. In the field of traditional ceramics, the research focuses on sustainable binders and building materials developed from industrial by-products, as well as the development of new geopolymeric and alkaline-activated materials.
