CAREER SUMMARY I completed my Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics in 2013 at the Politecnico di Torino. Upon completion of my Ph.D., I was awarded a postdoctoral research fellowship in Mathematics from the Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris, which I held at the Sorbonne Université. In 2014 I obtained a postdoctoral research fellowship in Mathematics for the Life Sciences from the Fondation Mathématique Jacques Hadamard, which I held at the École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay. From October 2015 to February 2020, I was a research fellow in Applied Mathematics at the University of St Andrews. Since March 2020, I have been an associate professor of Mathematical Physics at the Politecnico di Torino. I am currently a member of the board of the European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology. RESEARCH SYNOPSIS I work in mathematical biology. The focus of my research is on the development, analysis and numerical simulation of deterministic models formulated as partial differential equations, or partial integro-differential equations, and corresponding stochastic individual-based models. These models complement empirical research by enabling extrapolation beyond scenarios which can be investigated through experiments and by revealing emergent phenomena that would otherwise remain unobserved. Moreover, they pose a series of analytical and numerical challenges which make them interesting mathematical objects per se. I collaborate with researchers in the natural sciences. My current research interests include mathematical models of evolutionary dynamics, cell movement, tissue development, tumour growth and invasion, and immune response to cancer.
