Biografia

I am an industrial biotechnologist with a focus on developing solutions to 21st-century environmental issues. My research field involves the valorisation of CO2-rich waste gases from environmentally impactful industrial sectors through an innovative and promising approach. During my PhD, I am studying the development of a gas fermentative process to directly convert gaseous CO2 mixed with H2 into high-value liquid products using acetogenic bacteria. The objective of this study is to optimize the process of producing hexanol as the main product using Clostridium carboxidivorans to valorize the mentioned gas mixture. Hexanol is a C6-alcohol that serves as a drop-in molecule for various market segments, including solvents, flavors and fragrances, plasticizers, detergents, coatings, and pharma/fine chemicals. This work proposes substituting the current production of hexanol, which is based on fossil fuels or kernel palm oil, with a commercially and environmentally sustainable bio-based process.
