Abstract
The overarching objective of GENIUS is to train 15 Early-Stage Researchers (ESRs) to become creative, innovative and proactive individuals in conceptualising, designing and implementing energy geostructures applications to meet EU’s target of reducing our dependence on fossil fuels for space heating and cooling. This will be done through bottom-up research involving fundamental tools for the geothermal and structural design of energy geostructures, technical and practical expertise for their integration with structures and infrastructure, as well as their use for thermal energy storage. The overarching research goal of GENIUS is to establish validated tools for the design of energy geostructures to optimize their structural performance and energy efficiency, as well as practical guidance for their integration with buildings, infrastructure and other underground structures.
