Abstract
AEROMATICS develops next-generation aeroponic vertical farming systems combining additive manufacturing, advanced sensing, and artificial intelligence to enable sustainable, high-yield, and resource-efficient food production. The project demonstrates that 3Dprinted modules, optimized through computational modelling and controlled by hybrid AI, can reduce water and nutrient use by up to 40% and 30% respectively while increasing productivity. Over 48 months, a European consortium of universities, research institutes, and SMEs will co-design recyclable aeroponic modules, integrate smart sensors for real-time monitoring, and validate predictive control systems in greenhouse trials across diverse climates. Life-cycle and cost analyses will quantify environmental and economic performance, supporting EU Green Deal and Farm-to-Fork goals.
Through Marie Sklodowska-Curie Staff Exchanges, researchers will gain cross-sectoral expertise in AI, additive manufacturing, agronomy, and sustainability, strengthening long-term collaboration between academia and industry. AEROMATICS couples innovation with exploitation: validated prototypes, open sustainability metrics, and a joint exploitation committee will support commercialization, policy alignment, and standardization. The project will reinforce Europe’s leadership in sustainable agri-tech through climate-smart, circular, and data-driven vertical farming solutions.
