Biography

Born in Parma on December 31, 1970. He obtained his scientific high school diploma in 1989 (60/60). He graduated in Civil Engineering in 1995 from the Polytechnic University of Turin with full marks (110/110 cum laude). He earned a PhD in Structural Engineering in 1999 at the Polytechnic University of Turin. Since 1999, Pietro Cornetti has been affiliated with the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering as a research fellow (1999–2003), assistant professor (2003–2014), associate professor (2014–2025), and full professor (2025–). As of June 2026, the SCOPUS database lists 134 publications under the name Pietro Cornetti, including 87 journal articles, with an H-index of 35 and 4,127 citations. Research topics include: scale effects in quasi-brittle materials and the fractal cohesive model; stereological/statistical analysis of concrete granulometry and scale effects; fractional calculus and its applications in structural engineering; Finite Fracture Mechanics (theory, applications, implementation, and comparison with the cohesive model); delamination in reinforced beams and composite materials.
