Biography

Greetings! My name is Anna, an aerospace engineer currently pursuing my Ph.D. with a focus on high-power fiber lasers at the Politecnico di Torino. My academic journey began here in Turin, where I studied aerospace engineering. My education and passion naturally led me to a path that combines research and entrepreneurship, founding a startup with the dream of harnessing the potential of fiber optic lasers in space. After an enriching internship at the European Space Agency (ESA) in the Netherlands in 2023, where I immersed myself in the fascinating world of inter-satellite optical links, I graduated in aerospace engineering in the autumn of 2023 from the Polytechnic University of Turin. Thanks to this experience and several others, I became passionate about leveraging the capabilities of lasers in the space domain. My Ph.D. research revolves around high-power fiber lasers, optimizing their design process and around their diverse applications in different space environments. I am particularly intrigued by the prospect of harnessing the power of lasers for power generation and distribution, space debris mitigation, and sensing systems in space exploration.
I am committed to pushing the boundaries of knowledge in aerospace engineering and photonics, two topics which I am very excited to bring together throughout my path as a Ph.D. candidate. I am excited about the prospect of contributing to the advancement of space technologies and exploring some of the untapped potential of this technology.
