Biography

Giovanni Ghione is a full professor of Electronics since 1990. His research activity has been carried out in high-frequency electronics and optoelectronics (models of electronic and optoelectronic devices on compound semiconductors; models of passive components; wide-gap semiconductors such as GaN and SiC; fast photodetectors and electro-optical and electro-absorption modulators; plasmonic modulators). He has published over 300 research papers on the previous topics and five monographs. He has participated in numerous European and Italian research projects (national and regional). He is an IEEE Life Fellow (class of 2007). He was (2016-2022) Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices and (2024-2025) VP Pubs of the IEEE Electron Devices Society. From 1998 to 2007 he was director (then president) of the Library System of the Polytechnic University of Turin. From 2007 to 2015 he was the director of the Department of Electronics (then Electronics and Telecommunications) of the Polytechnic of Turin. He was a member of the Academic Senate of the Polytechnic (2015 mandate). He was President of the Italian Electronics Society (2019-2021).
