Biography

Andrea Mongardi (Mondovì, 1994) received both his Bachelor in Electronic Engineering and the Master in Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems specialization, from Politecnico di Torino in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

During his Master thesis, named "A Low-Power Embedded System for Real-Time EMG based Event-Driven Gesture Recognition", he extended his knowledge about digital electronics and studied biomedical signals acquisition techniques (expecially surface electromiography (sEMG)) and various Machine Learning (ML) approaches, under the supervision of Prof. Maurizio Martina and Prof. Danilo Demarchi. He then spent 3 months with a scholarship at DISAT, applying his new knowledge in ML to electrochemical State-of-Health analysis.

He then returned at DET, where since May 2020 is officially member of the Micro and Nano Electronic Systems (MiNES) Group headed by Prof. Demarchi, to continue his previous research activity on gesture recognition. On November 2020 begins his PhD journey, under the supervision of Proff. Danilo Demarchi, Maurizio Martina and Massimo Ruo Roch, focusing on the design of very low power embedded systems for sEMG signal acquisition, integrating existing hardware into new smart solutions and adding a bit of intelligence to it.
