Horizon Europe is the European Union’s 9th Framework Programme for Research and Innovation covering the period 2021-2027 and succeeding Horizon 2020.
With a budget of 95.5 billion Euro, it is the most ambitious European research and innovation programme ever.
Horizon Europe reaffirms the value of open science for the dissemination of knowledge and as an engine for innovation and development.
Horizon Europe marks a decisive shift from Horizon 2020, with the move from Open Access only for texts and data to Open Science as the “new norm” for conducting research according to the principle “as open as possible as closed as necessary”.
European research is “Open” and thus promotes innovation, growth and competitiveness, as well as more transparent research and faster access to data and results.
The programme has three pillars:
- Excellent Science
- Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness
- Innovative Europe
