Abstract

The objectives of this project are: 1. To identify an hybrid/integrated production route, based on an Additive Manufacturing process plus finish machining, suitable for the production of automotive components. 2. To develop and apply a comprehensive LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and LCC (Life Cycle Costing)-based methodology for assessing the environmental and economic impact due to the integration of conventional machining and AM processes. Within this framework, new green manufacturing guidelines will be proposed. 3. To evaluate the benefits through the whole life cycle of a component re-designed for the hybrid/integrated production route, and to verify whether the newly proposed manufacturing approach could be effectively integrated in the actual production plants.
