Abstract
The project will address innovative multi-material joining processes, suitable for component manufacturing (e.g., TWBs) and/or for final assembly (e.g., car bodies, doors, seat frames), for the combinations of designs and materials, which are relevant for the car industry. The project will be primarily devoted to welded joints between steel and aluminum alloy sheets, and to the transition joints technology, but other material couples (e.g., with magnesium alloys) and technologies (e.g., friction stir welding) will also be considered in the scouting phase. Moreover, mechanical junctions will be examined for comparison. The reduction of CO2 emissions will be obtained through the reduction of the car weight, consequent to the application of the proposed processes.
