QS World University Rankings 2027: the University jumps to 206th place worldwide and almost reaches the top 200
Politecnico ranks 206th in the QS World University Rankings 2027, one of the best-known international university rankings published annually by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), entering the top 14% of the world’s best universities for the first time. In the previous edition, the University ranked in the top 16%: it has climbed 36 places internationally in one year, compared with its 242nd place in 2025, whilst it remains fifth nationally, with the most significant rise in ranking among the top five Italian universities.
“The result achieved in the 2027 edition of the QS World University Rankings recognises the development strategy pursued by Politecnico's current leadership, focused on innovation, interdisciplinarity and internationalisation – emphasises Rector Stefano Corgnati – “This achievement stems from the shared commitment of the entire academic community to strengthening dialogue with the university network, the business sector and society.”
The 2027 ranking examined more than 8,800 universities across 106 countries. 1,504 universities were included in the ranking, 47 of which were Italian; amongst these, Politecnico di Torino has continued to improve steadily: it has climbed 120 places in the ranking over the last four years.
“This result encourages us to further consolidate a solid network of partnerships with the world’s leading universities, reinforcing Politecnico di Torino’s international standing and its ability to attract high-calibre students, researchers and talent”, adds the Rector Stefano Corgnati.
The indicators that contributed most to this success are Employer Reputation and Citations per Faculty. The first indicator assesses the views of international employers on the preparedness of graduates: Politecnico di Torino has climbed 39 places, reaching 125th place. As for the impact of international research output, the University has risen from 230th to 185th place. For both these indicators, Politecnico di Torino has entered the national top 3 for the first time and ranks first amongst the top five Italian universities for Citations per Faculty.
It is also worth noting the significant growth in the International Research Network: Politecnico di Torino is, indeed, among the Italian universities that have risen the most (+44 places) in this indicator, which highlights the institution’s ability to consolidate its scientific collaborations at an international level. There has also been an improvement in Sustainability (+32), due to its efforts towards environmental sustainability and social equity.
