International recognition for the LISiN group at the ISEK congress
The Laboratory for Engineering of the Neuromuscular System (LISiN), part of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications-DET, received important recognition at the 2026 edition of the ISEK congress – The International Society of Electrophysiology & Kinesiology, one of the leading international scientific events dedicated to the study of muscle activity and human movement, held from June 24 to 27 in Jyväskylä, Finland. These achievements confirm the group's leading role in research on technologies for the study of the neuromuscular system.
Among the awards granted, Giacinto Luigi Cerone, a DET researcher, placed second in the De Luca Award, a prize dedicated to young researchers who have distinguished themselves through innovation in electromyographic (EMG) signal acquisition and processing technologies. The award recognizes Cerone's contribution to the development of modular, wireless systems for high-density electromyographic signal acquisition, as well as an echo-transparent electrode grid, developed together with Professor Alberto Botter, which enables the simultaneous acquisition of EMG signals and ultrasound images, opening new perspectives in the study of muscle neuromechanics.
Also distinguishing herself at the congress was Elena Cesti, a DET PhD student supervised by Professor Alberto Botter, who took second place in the competition reserved for PhD students and young researchers, thanks to a study that combines, for the first time, echo-transparent grids and ultrafast 3D ultrasound to identify and reconstruct the activation volume of individual motor units.
The congress also featured, as an exhibitor, ReC Bioengineering Laboratories, the Politecnico's spin-off born from LISiN's experience, confirming the strong connection between research, technology transfer, and innovation.
These achievements are the result of the work of the entire LISiN group. In addition to Giacinto Luigi Cerone, Alberto Botter, and Elena Cesti, Professors Marco Gazzoni and Taian Martins Vieira, together with PhD students Marta Boccardo and Marco Gagliardi, contributed to these results, confirming the quality of the research carried out by the University's laboratory and its ongoing commitment to scientific and technological innovation."
