Japan Hub Mission Concludes: Strengthening Academic and Scientific Collaborations in Japan
The latest mission of the Japan Hub delegation to Japan has come to a successful conclusion, providing an important opportunity to strengthen relationships with existing partners and foster new synergies in the fields of education, research, and technology transfer.
On 18 June, Giuseppe Quaglia and Giovanni Colucci took part in an institutional meeting at Nagoya University. During the visit, the delegation met with faculty members and representatives of the International Educational Cooperation Office, as well as several professors interested in establishing new research collaborations with colleagues from Politecnico di Torino. The meeting provided an opportunity to explore potential areas of scientific and academic cooperation, laying the groundwork for future joint initiatives between the two universities. In this context, the long-standing sister-city relationship between Turin and Nagoya represents an additional asset for the development of institutional and academic ties.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited Nagoya City University, a long-standing partner of Politecnico di Torino since 2001, with which a bilateral student exchange agreement is currently in place. During meetings with faculty members from the Department of Architecture and Urban Design and representatives of the International Exchange Center, opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual interest were discussed. Over the years, cooperation between the two institutions has been strengthened through continuous and fruitful exchanges, creating solid foundations for the further expansion of joint activities.
The mission concluded on 19 June with a visit to Osaka Institute of Technology, a partner of Politecnico di Torino under a cooperation agreement signed in 2025. Two Master's students in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino are currently conducting their thesis research at the Japanese university under the joint supervision of Professor Giuseppe Quaglia for Politecnico di Torino and Professor Fumitoshi Matsuno for Osaka Institute of Technology. Their research focuses on the development of modular robotic systems for lunar applications and robotic technologies for search-and-rescue operations. The visit concluded with a meeting at the university's International Office, dedicated to exploring further opportunities for collaboration and strengthening ties between the two institutions. The discussions confirmed a shared commitment to developing joint initiatives in research, education, and innovation.
