Occupant Comfort in Electric Vertical Take-off Landing Aircraft

The seminar Occupant Comfort in Electric Vertical Take-off Landing Aircraft will be held at Politecnico di Torino on 25 July 2026 and will be presented by Dr. Aykut Tamer, Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath (United Kingdom).

Electric Vertical Take-Off/Landing (eVTOL) vehicles present a promising contribution to decarbonising air transport with their electric propulsion and operational versatility. However, challenges remain, as various unconventional and complex architectures and technologies are still being explored. One key issue is occupant comfort as eVTOLs operate under complex flight regimes and generate high-amplitude vibratory loads, which, when transferred to the cabin, potentially lead to an uncomfortable ride. This presentation addresses key comfort challenges in eVTOL aircraft, exploring analytical models and experimental strategies.

Biography
Dr Aykut Tamer began his career as a Loads and Aeroelasticity Engineer at Turkish Aerospace Industries (2007–2011) after earning his BSc and Mac in Aerospace Engineering from Middle East Technical University. He then completed his PhD in Aerospace Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 2015 and continued at Politecnico di Milano as a Research Fellow (2015–2019). Dr Tamer, then worked as a Research Associate at Imperial College London Rolls-Royce Vibration University Technology Centre (2019–2023). He is now a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath.
