  Ugo Piperno

Ugo Piperno   was born in Florence on 24th February 1908. He graduated in Electrotechnic Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino, when he was 21 years only. After a short experience at Face, in 1933 Piperno started working for the Automatic Electric Satap (from 1937 to 1957 called Autelco), company of telephone sets and precision equipment.
    In this company, in 1956 Piperno was general director, in 1969 was nominated managing director and in 1974 became president of the company which turned into Gte Telecomunicazioni.

In 1983 Piperno left the company and was soon appointed as honorary president. For the Gte (then become Siemens Telecomunicazioni and later Italtel) Piperno cared for the Strowgerb production of the Mechanical Telephone Case. This production started in 1937 and launched the last specimen from the line of assembly in July 1990.

Piperno was one of first pioneers in the manufacturing in Italy of optical fibres and had important offices even outside the company. He was managing director in Sts, a consortium for satellite aided communications.

On 2nd June del 1970 Piperno was appointed commendatore by Saragat, president of the Republic and on 13th December 1977 was nominated as honorary ambassador in the Central African Republic.

He died in Milan on 31st March 1996.
