  Cesare Penati

Cesare Penati   was born on 18th September 1847 in Turin. Penati graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the Application School for Engineers and started his carrieer in Hungery by manufacturing railways.

Returned to Italy in 1874, Penati devoted to teach as an assistant of Mechanical technology, at the Royal Industrial Museum of Turin. Thanks to the experience acquired abroad, Penati had a quick success in the university world, becoming teacher in Drawing of Machines (1879), then professor of Steam Machines and Railways (1886) at the Application School for Engineers and last full professor of Thermal Machines and Railways. (1890).

Penati devoted more and more to thermal machines, passing from piston-operated engines to inside combustion engines and steam turbines. In addition, he pointed out the theoretical value and the great practical value of the diesel concept.

Penati died in Cavenzano (Bergamo) on 25th March 1920.
