  Gino Levi Montalcini

Gino Levi Montalcini   He was born in Milan on 21st April 1902. Levi Montalcini studied in Turin, precociously growing drawing and sculpture. He graduated in architecture in 1925. At the faculty of Architecture he met Giuseppe Pagano, with whom he worked steadily up to 1930. The two architects implemented some of the first Italian rationalist works, such as the Gualino office palace (Corso Vittorio Emanuele II) and the project of 1931 for via Roma (with the Miar group). After Pagano moved to Milan, in the architectonic climate of Turin, more next to the XIX century spirit, Levi Montalcini remained one of the few relevant representatives of the rationalist movement.

He co-operated to the magazine "Casa Bella", participated to Triennial Competitions of Milan and implemented several projects in Piedmont, such as villas on Turin hill or the holiday camp in Bardonecchia. After the war he was teacher at the faculty of engineering in the Politecnico, then in Palermo, Padova and yet to the faculty of Architecture of Turin.

In the general climate of reviewing the post-war architectonic culture, Levi Montalcini coherently achieved an individual research as major works witness; the electrical station of Chivasso (with Passanti and Ceresa, 1950-1952) and the new head office of Human faculty (with the pool of the architect Morelli from 1959). After his death in Turin on 20th November 1974, works by Levi Montalcini were exhibited in several Italian towns and cultural shows.
