  Luigi Einaudi

was born in Carrų (Cuneo) on 24th March 1874. Einaudi graduated in law in 1895.

After being engaged by the Saving Bank of Turin, he dismissed quite soon for teaching to secondary schools, among which the Royal Technical Institute "G. Sommeiller" of Turin. In 1898 Einaudi got the qualification for teaching in Political economy at the University of Turin. In 1902 the professor was called by the faculty of Law.

Between the two centuries Einaudi became famous also as a reporter. Since 1897 he received the card of editor and co-operator of "La Stampa", led by Luigi Roux. After leaving "La Stampa", Einaudi reached the "Corriere della Sera" (1903), led by Luigi Albertini.

Einaudi, who shared socialist trends, in 1896 started to cooperate for the magazine "Riforma sociale" (social reformation), whose he was editor (1900), deputy director (1902) and sole director (1907). Since 1922 Einaudi co-operated with "The Economist" of London, as a correspondant from Italy.

In 1943 the reporter expatriated from Italy due to political reasons, after an advice by neo-fascists. He returned in Italy one year later to take, in the liberated Rome, the office of governor of the Bank of Italy.

On 11th May 1948 Einaudi was appointed as president of the Republic by a centralist majority. At the end of his office in 1955, Einaudi returned to co-operate with the "Corriere della Sera". He died for bronchial pneumonia on 30th October 1961.
